Installation notes[edit]
- Vista / WF2 seem to have a conflict with writing in the user's profile directory. Use c:\temp or %temp% which is in the user's profile
- Pro/Mechanica has to be associated with proe during ptcsetup (install pro/M first?)
- If you have firewalls enabled, Pro/E may fail to run with a licensing error the first time you run it. After you have told your firewall software to allow Pro/E to access the network license server, the next time you run it, it should work.
Installing Pro/E Wildfire 4 and 5[edit]
The instructions are the same as for version 3, except that now Pro/Mechanica is more tightly integrated, and installs by default.
- \\burke.mmae.ucf.edu\proewf5\setup (or proewf5-64)
- choose Pro/E Mechanica if it is needed
- choose default packages (click next)
- Add license server burke.mmae.ucf.edu default port (7788)
- change startup directory to %TEMP% or some other directory writable to students
- (wildfire 5) Uncheck the windchill option which causes some problems and won't be used here.
- install
- (click NEXT when it finishes)
- click exit
- The installer does not always save the startup directory correctly. If there are accounts without admin access that will use Pro/E, you may need to check the properties on the menu entry and/or icon, and change the start directory to %temp%
Troubleshooting Pro/E startup problems[edit]
[edit]
The menu entry may have been deleted somehow.
- Run (note: adjust for the correct installation directory) c:\program files\proeWildfire\bin\ptcsetup.bat
- Accept existing defaults, make sure license server is burke.mmae.ucf.edu
- click next / configure until the exit button is the only option
This should rebuild the menu entries and also freshen the license options.
licensing error[edit]
Pro/E gets a license error during startup, and exits when OK is clicked.
- Make sure your network is working correctly. Your computer must be on the UCF network (either directly, or via VPN) to contact the Pro/E license server.
- If you are using wifi for your network, make sure you are on the UCF_WPA2 network (see the [UCF NOC wireless overview)
- If your installation was before 2011 your license server might be wrong, follow the instructions in the section above and make sure it is set to burke.
